Dear Adrian. I am also a fan of Thassos and was there for some visits. I made a short report on the mollusc fauna. You should take off the two species Bythinella alta (central European)by Angelov mistaken for Bythinella charpentieri and Lithoglyphoides virescens (northwestern Balkan) mistaken for Belgrandiella hohenackeri. Best greetings Reischütz

Dear Adrian, I enjoyed your website. It's well written. I study the land snails of Turkey. I see in your list several species that are also found in Turkey. I hope Thasos will avoid overdeveloping & destroying its coastal habitats, a fate, unfortunately, Turkey couldn’t escape. I have some information on the land snails of Turkey at my website (members.aol.com/aydinslibrary). Regards, Aydin

Thanks Adrian. I found your site very informative and useful. I am particularly interested in the Birds on Thassos. I am returning to the Island in May 2003 for another two week holiday and would be grateful if you could give me the benefit of your knowledge of birdwatching sites on the island. You mentioned Bee Eaters breeding on the Maries river and if possible a more specific location would be of help. When we return in May we will be venturing into the centre of the island by 4X4. Are there any good sites for Eagles or other raptors.

I have visited Thasos for the last four years and enjoyed each visit more than the previous one. Much of my time is spent snorkeling off Trypiti Beach near Limenaria. There appears to be so many different species of fish. Is it possible for your site to include pictures of some of the more common and perhaps the not so common fish and other creatures, octopus and cuttlefish, that can be found there.

Hello! Love your homepage, especially that about birds. Very useful since I am a (starting!)ornithologist and going there on holiday and now have an idea of which birds to look for! But it could be even better with some short descriptions of good places to study birds (and reptiles).

Just came back from my 2 visit to the island. I have discovered joy of mountain walks and drives on Thasos - have been by foot to Ypsario and Pr.Ilias - people should know how easy and fun is to walk - not only to drive up to the summit (which is great fun too). Do you have any good map of road/path network?

Dear Adrian, I write to you regarding your Orchid section. I am looking for information about Orchids in the island, possibly I will visit Thasos next summer if I can find enough contacts or info to go and look at the terrestrial Orchids in the wild, so I'll be very grateful if you could help me in any way, as giving me the address of any Orchids of Thasos association or any amateur willing to show me the Orchids around. Thanks in advance, Paloma.

Dear sirs, I had been looking and searching in the internet to see, whether the latest issue of BUPRESTIS, a newsletter for workers on buprestids already appeared and found your homepage. I am glad to see that you know our book on the Greek buprestids. I do not know whether you have it or not. Anyhow its a pleasure to learn that this paper is also known in Greece - and used! Unfortunatelly during our studies non of the Greek institutes or collections did support our studies with datas or material. The only one had been the Goulandris museum, where I had been myself to write down all datas. Nevertheless I thank you for this unexpected pleasure. With my very best wishes Hans Mühle

I see, really, that your research about natural history of Thassos, is very interesting. I have studied in the University of Agricultural Science in Thessaloniki (Greece). Ι researched organic agriculture in Thassos in my post- graduate studies (master of science) and I ‘m a candidate doctor. I’ m interested to learn about the natural vegetation of Thassos and the distribution of the vegetation above the island. I’ m studying the rural landscape. If you could inform me about my interests I would be grateful for you. Thank you

I have seen Pine Martens on Thassos on a number of occasions, even in Thassos Town I saw one running down the road outside The Anonymous Cafe at about 3am. Last year there were reports of damage to Moped seats and the seats of Jeeps at Makriamos, it turned out that it was the Pine Martens ripping the seats and taking the stuffing out presumably to line their nests.

What a delight it was to find your web site, you are creating something truly useful here. I haven't finished working my way through it yet, but what I have seen is great.

I write to you for more than just to say how much I appreciate your efforts. I am currently living in northern Greece and am currently helping, on a voluntary level, produce checklists of everything found in the area of the Kerkini Lake Wetland environment. This is not far from Thassos, so it occurs to me that there may be many species similar, except there is probably more diversity here. Having said this it is interesting that there is so little similarity in the ant lists, though mine is a long way from complete, the identifications were done by an myrmecologist in Edierne and should be reliable.

HI! My name is Marco, I'm from Italy. I'm studying by myself Euscorpius populations all around Mediterranean basin, but in particular I'm looking from specimens from Greek islands (I'm a collaborator of some Italy, Norway and USA' universities); they are making a revision of populations previously belonged to "E.carpathicus" (now restricted to Romania). Perhaps E.c. candiota will be a new species, but we don't know it's distribution. We have got data from southern Aegean but not from northern (for example Thasos). Can you tell me something about Euscorpius in Thasos (different colors, habitats, sizes,...)? Ah, your site is very good, I love Greece too!!!!
